Marnie Hart is a North Carolina–based artist and educator whose work moves between figurative painting, symbolism, narrative, and socially engaged projects.

Across more than two decades of studio practice, Hart has returned to the ways people care for one another, the stories we attach to objects and images, and the tension between beauty and more difficult emotional truths. Her paintings are grounded in observation but often carry a second language of symbols, text, and repeated forms.

Flowers are one of those recurring forms. Drawing from the history of tussie mussies and floriography, Hart uses specific blooms not simply as decoration, but as symbols that can reinforce, complicate, or contradict the image around them.

Hart taught art for nearly two decades while maintaining her own studio practice. Her teaching has included drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, aesthetics, AP Studio Art, portfolio development, private instruction, and mentorship for students pursuing further study in art and design.

Her practice also extends beyond painting. The self-published book i promise to… combined illustration, publishing, and animal-welfare advocacy, with project profits directed to rescue organizations. Ceramics, drawing, text, and community-minded projects remain part of the broader practice.

Hart lives and works in Statesville, North Carolina.
